Next Read Club

Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 12, 2026

This policy is a plain-language, good-faith description of our data practices — it is provided as general information, not as legal advice, and hasn't been reviewed by a lawyer. If you need this document to satisfy a specific legal requirement, have it reviewed before relying on it.

This Privacy Policy describes how Next Read Club ("we," "us," or "the Site") handles information when you visit https://nextreadclub.org.

Information we collect

We keep this deliberately minimal. Depending on how you use the Site, this may include:

  • Usage data collected automatically — things like which pages you visit, which filters or moods you select, which books you click on, approximate location (country/city level, inferred from IP address), device and browser type, and referring pages. This is typically collected through analytics tools (see below).
  • Information stored in your browser — if you use the "I want to read this" feature, the list of saved books is stored in your browser's local storage. It stays on your device; we don't receive or store it on our servers, and it's tied to your browser, not to an identity.
  • Information you send us directly — if you email us (see Contact Us), we'll have your email address and whatever you choose to tell us.

We do not require account creation to use this Site, and we do not knowingly collect names, physical addresses, or payment information.

Cookies and similar technologies

We may use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies to remember basic preferences and to understand how the Site is used in aggregate. For details on the specific categories and how to control them, see our Cookie Policy.

Analytics

We may use privacy-conscious analytics tools (such as PostHog) to understand, in aggregate, how people use the Site — which pages get visited, which filters get used, which books get clicked. This helps us improve the recommendations and the catalog. Analytics data is used in aggregate; we don't use it to build individual profiles or to identify you personally.

Third-party services

Depending on configuration, this Site may rely on third parties such as:

  • Hosting and content delivery providers, to serve the Site itself;
  • Analytics providers (e.g., PostHog), as described above;
  • Book metadata and cover image sources (e.g., Google Books, Open Library), used only to display book information — these are not tracking technologies.

Each of these operates under its own privacy policy, which we encourage you to review.

We are not currently a participant in the Amazon Associates program or any other affiliate or advertising program. If that changes, we'll update this policy and disclose it clearly, including on the relevant pages.

How we use information

We use the information described above to:

  • Operate and improve the recommendation engine and the catalog;
  • Understand, in aggregate, what's useful and what isn't;
  • Diagnose technical problems;
  • Respond to messages you send us.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use your data to serve you ads on this Site.

Data retention

Aggregate analytics data is retained only as long as it's useful for the purposes above. Anything stored in your browser's local storage stays there until you clear your browser data or use the Site's own controls to remove it.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or limit the use of personal information we hold about you, or to object to certain processing. Because we don't maintain user accounts or a personal-data database beyond what's described here, most of these requests will simply involve confirming we don't hold anything further. To make a request, contact us at contact@yourdomain.com. You can also clear your browser's local storage at any time to remove your saved "want to read" list, and use your browser or device settings to control cookies and tracking (see the Cookie Policy).

Children's privacy

This Site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we'll remove it.

International users

This Site may be accessed from outside [Your State/Country of Residence]. If you access it from another country, your information may be processed in a country with different data protection laws than your own.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page when we do. Material changes will be reflected here — we encourage you to check back periodically.
